5 Myths About Pilates Classes

Pilates. That scary looking workout on those intimidating machines, as most assume. Those who decide to pursue practicing Pilates have learned that this is not the case at all! They have discovered the secret to one of the best methods of exercise out there. Here, we will go through some common myths and debunk them for you.

1 ) Pilates is easy

Pilates may seem like an easy workout but it is definitely not. The moves consist of tiny increments that target deeply within. If you are doing pilates correctly, it is NOT going to be easy. On a reformer, springs are added to intensify the weight of the workout to make it more difficult for each level of fitness. It is a challenging workout that helps to tone from within.

2 ) You have to be flexible

Like any workout, your body starts to adjust and transform each time you perform it. Pilates will help you to become more flexible while you build strength. Each time you do pilates, you will notice a difference within the next sessions.

3 ) Pilates is for women

Pilates is for men also! Pilates trains a different set of muscles than normally trained so it can be a good alternative to a typical workout for men. The moves are designed to target deeper muscles within your body. There are many clients that attend Transition Pilates that are male. They often come in thinking it is going to be an easy workout but end up struggling to get through it!

4 ) Pilates requires special equipment

Pilates can also be performed on a mat. You do not need to have a reformer, ladder barrel, or chair to be able to do pilates. Most often mat pilates classes are even more difficult than performing on the equipment as you really need to focus on moving and holding your body in certain moves to make sure you get a good workout.

5 ) Pilates only focuses on core

Pilates does focus on the deep core muscles, but it is not the only muscle group that it can target. It is designed to work on your full body. There are moves you can do for legs, for your glutes, and arms. With pilates moves, you can really target any area of the body that you would like to target.

As you can see, Pilates is not as scary as it seems! It is a great workout to add to your routine if you already haven’t.
